Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical Reveals Full Cast Ahead of Melbourne Premiere

The final pieces of the cast are in place for the Australian premiere of MRS. DOUBTFIRE, with producers confirming today that Jake Speer will lead the company in the dual role of Daniel Hillard and his alter ego, the beloved Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire — the part Robin Williams made iconic on screen in 1993. The musical opens at Melbourne's Princess Theatre in November 2026 before transferring to Sydney's Capitol Theatre from March 2027.

Speer, best known to Australian audiences for his three-year run as Oscar MacGuire on Home and Away, joins a cast built from a mix of established musical theatre names and emerging talent. Suzie Mathers (Wicked, Mamma Mia!) takes on Miranda Hillard, Hayden Tee (Les Misérables, Matilda) plays Frank Hillard, and Thomas McGuane (Frozen, Back to the Future) rounds out the Hillard family circle as Stuart Dunmire. Jo-Anne Jackson joins as Wanda Sellner, while Alexandra Lethborg makes her professional theatre debut as Lydia Hillard. The Hillard children will be shared across performances by two rotating casts of young performers, with Josh Burton standing by as Daniel Hillard.

Based on the beloved film, MRS. DOUBTFIRE follows out-of-work actor Daniel Hillard who, after losing custody of his children in a messy divorce, disguises himself as a prim Scottish housekeeper in a desperate bid to stay close to his family — only for the ruse to take on a life of its own. The stage adaptation played to sell-out houses in the West End for almost two years, alongside a Broadway season and tours through the US, Germany, South Korea and Brazil, with a UK tour set to begin this month. The Times called it a production that "soars from screen to stage," while The Telegraph described it simply as "a complete joy."

Directing the Australian production is four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, whose most recent Broadway credit is The Music Man starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster. Zaks' résumé also includes the Tony-winning Hello, Dolly!, Steve Martin's Meteor Shower and A Bronx Tale, along with four Tony Awards from eight nominations, four Drama Desk Awards, two Outer Critics Circle Awards and an Obie.

MRS. DOUBTFIRE is presented by Suzanne Jones for Jones Theatrical Group in association with Kevin McCollum and Jamie Wilson Productions.
